Master Thesis – Radar Signal Processing

Scope: 2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each

Background
Axis is developing radar products for public surveillance and we constantly try to improve our products by exploring new ways of solving advanced problems. Commonly used surveillance or automotive radars rely on windowed discrete Fourier transform for spectral analysis. In this thesis you will evaluate the usage of more computationally intensive spectral analysis methods and benchmark them using simulated and real radar data.

The thesis will try to answer the question: Is it possible to get comparable results using less data but more compute?

Goal

• Get an understanding of the 3D-frequency estimation problem in FMCW radar.
• Evaluate usage of 1D/2D adaptive beamforming methods, time-frequency dependent filtering or other computationally intensive spectral analysis algorithms.
• Test and verify the proposed methods on real and simulated data.
• Evaluate the computational cost for feasibility in near real-time processing applications.

We expect you to have an interest in math, decent knowledge of programming in Python, and a basic understanding of spectral analysis. You can apply for this thesis work on your own or as a team of two.
