Master Thesis – Object Classification for radar data

Scope: 2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each

Background
Axis is developing radar products for public surveillance and we constantly try to improve our products by exploring new ways of solving advanced problems.

Object classification is a key step in making the radar sensor output more accessible to the user. This thesis will study the possibility of complementing our current object classification algorithms by including the following classes:

  • Trees or other slowly moving/swaying objects.
  • Dogs, Horses, or other wildlife.

Another interesting topic is trying to find reliable people detection targets that are too far away for the currently used features to be reliable.

 Goal

  • Learn how a modern radar operates,
  • do research on machine learning algorithms,
  • implement several object classification algorithms
  • test and verify the most promising methods on real radar data.

We expect you to have an interest in math, decent knowledge of programming in Python, and a basic understanding of machine learning. You can apply for this thesis work on your own or as a team of two.
